About Minds Of Jamaica

Our Mission

Our mission is to highlight unique professionals in our community and provide mentorship opportunities for the next generation. ‘Minds Of Jamaica’ is the flagship resource to be born out of the recently established MindsOf Initiative. This platform is curated to promote and foster mentor-mentee relationships for young, talented students across the island of Jamaica.

We hope that through the stories we highlight of our Minds we can INFORM young students of the variety of career options that exist in Jamaica and beyond. The journey and mentorship of our Minds will INSPIRE students across the island who may feel lost, may feel as though someone from their background cannot realistically achieve their dreams or simply may not have the information needed to make informed and strategic career decisions. Ultimately, our hope is that through this approach more students will be able to ACHIEVE success and happiness in their career and life.

The Inspiration

Inspiration is unpredictable. In October of 2018, I was blessed with the opportunity to return to my alma mater, the Herbert Morrison Technical High School in Montego Bay, to speak to their Sixth Form class. Invited to speak with students about my journey after high school in pursuing my career, I decided to speak on finding your passions and linking them with your talents professionally. I was struck by the level of engagement of the students and the interest they took in wanting to be more strategic in finding career paths that align with their interests and maximize their potential.

The students made it clear that there was a lack of mentorship available to them from individuals who are actually employed in the roles to which students aspire. It was evident that most students were unsure of how to begin networking effectively or where to even find these professionals. It is from this realization that MindsOf was born as a resource which students can look to in order to find out more about the career paths available to them and connect with individuals in the field.

The Vision

Minds Of Jamaica represents the first resource to be produced from our MindsOf Initiative to engage and highlight the young minds of Jamaica. Recognizing that the needs of Jamaican students are shared, we are clear that this initiative will be developed in neighboring islands as well.

We strive to develop an empowered and reformed Caribbean, with youth finding their true passions and specializing in diverse fields. Our goal is to be a platform through which we can empower a new generation of professionals who feel equipped and connected to their interests within their country. We know the path to growth lies within the minds of our students and future nation builders.
